On August 4th 2008 I captured this image of Lightning striking the Sears Tower. That night two major storms rolled thru Chicago this was just before the second wave hit.

Today I ran across this video on Vimeo that Craig Shimala shot the same night. At 1:25 the footage is of the same strike.

Food, Creativity, and Technology
Over the years I have always been amazed at how many creative/tech people I have run across that also love using their creativity in preparing food. When I watch Oprah shows that talk about overweight people eating to cope with some deep emotional scar I’m always thinking that’s not me. I just love to eat good rich food! I love butter and cream and gravy and butter and meat and etc… You get the point.
All of that to say – I’m going to start posting great food finds here on my blog. Here it goes…
I got sucked into ‘The Next Food Network Star’ for the last 4 weeks and followed the winner as she started her new show. Aarti Sequeira hosts a weekly show called Aarti Party. Her niche is to infuse Indian flavors into every day American food. Most of us have a very limited concept of what Indian flavors are. Aarti really opens the door to some amazing flavor combinations. Tonight I made one of her recipes for dinner. Her ‘I Ain’t Chicken Chicken’ was amazing. You can find the recipe here. The whole family enjoyed the meal. It was hard to put away the leftovers because I just wanted to keep eating them.
What’s inspiring me.
I downloaded the latest album, The Ship and The Sea, from the band The Autumn Film last week. This music is creative food for me right now. The lead vocal is haunting, clear, and emotional. The arrangements are fresh and classic at the same time. The lyrics thought provoking.
Things that inspire me
ETC, ETC, ETC
I spent a day at the ETC headquarters in Middleton, WI. They have an awesome facility and work environment.
The assembly floor / warehouse is one very large open space. All ETC products are made in this space. All elements of ETC gear are manufactured in this facility except for the lenses and the metal castings for the fixtures.
Texting
At Park, we are using texting to better connect with our people. We use many features of our provider, Jarbyco, to keep people informed and to find out what they are thinking. Tim Schraeder, Park’s communication director, manages all the texting options. I manage the implementation into our projection system.
A couple of weeks ago, we did a texting poll. It was very useful for Jackson Crum to understand where our people stood on the issue of speaking in tongues. We did this live during our service with results in real time on our screens.
Click here to try the poll for yourself. After the flash app opens, text your answer to the number and watch it change in real time. The poll will reset itself when reloaded or refreshed.
We have some fun ways we are going to implement texting in the near future. I will let you know how it goes.
Cool Toys

I am always loosing my USB thumb drives. I saw this on the key chain of a friend I was having lunch with the other day and asked where he got it. I ordered a couple for our team. We got the 8GB version. It is water proof and very light weight. You can order them from the LaCie web site.
Got to love it!

Late last August my wife went to visit her parents. I took the opportunity to go see The Dark Knight. I first went to Navy Pier to see it at IMAX but it was sold out. I took a bus to the next closest theater. After the movie I started walking to the L station. It was one of those amazing summer evenings and after seeing Chicago in the Dark Knight it was an amazing feeling to walk down those streets.

They shot this on top of 311 Wacker. It is the building Jazz, my 6 year old, can see out of his window and judges whether it’s bedtime by whether the light is on or off.
